Our journeys may all be unique but at CrossFit 610 we go through them together. Good or bad, up or down, thick or thin- we are here for each other for the long haul. We pull each other through the setbacks and challenges and we celebrate and take pride in the accomplishments and successes of our athletes.
That is why every month CrossFit 610 will recognize one member as the Athlete of the Month. Athlete of the Month is not a popularity contest, nor is it based on who can do the most burpees in 3 minutes or the heaviest snatch. We are looking for someone who:
- gives his/her all EVERY time they walk through the doors
- is committed to CrossFit and to reaching their goals
- encourages those around them
- has made strides in their own pursuit of better fitness
- has a positive, no-excuses attitude
On to the good stuff! This month our Athlete of the Month is LIndsey Lybarger! Although we had a REALLY hard time deciding who should wear the title this month, we chose Lindsey because she really stood out as someone who has gone above and beyond to make sure they are improving and she HAS!! Even within the last few weeks Lindsey has made amazing progress- lifting more, mastering new movements, gaining confidence in her abilities...she's really taken off! We exepct to see Lindsey being the first female at the box to master a muscle up, without a doubt. On top of being determined and driven to succeed, Lindsey is just about the sweetest girl you would ever hope to meet. She is always smiles and sunshine, and encourages everyone! Be sure to read her Athlete Interview below.
Lindsey received an Athlete of the Month shirt and gets to program a WOD for everyone for this month! Congratulations, Lindsey!
How long have you been with CrossFit 610? Just over a year.
Favorite WOD? Diane
Least favorite WOD? Karen
Favorite lift? Back squat.
Least favorite lift? snatch
Favorite food? Seafood
What is an interesting fact about you? I used to be a competitive cheerleader and I can still do a lot of tumbling.
What were you doing before you found CrossFit/CrossFit 610? I did cheerleading and lifted on occasion. I learned about CrossFit 610 from Bret Stowe, but I was always curious about CrossFit. My dad used to get some of his workouts from the CrossFit website. I did a few with him and it was for sure the hardest the workout I did at that time. I thought "wow there is so much I didn't realize I need to improve on!"
What success have you had while doing CrossFit? I don't know where to start! I ran 3 5ks this year and each one of them my time improved by over a minute from just doing crossfit. I'm able to do pull ups and handstand push-ups. Also with how small I've always been I never thought I would be back squatting 170 lbs or squat cleaning 100 lbs which is almost my body weight.
What advice would you give to someone new to Crossfit? Remember that you're competing against yourself and not others. Make sure you go at your own pace. It will come with time. Just make sure to really focus on your form and make sure you ask for clarification if you need it. Also be coachable, Nick and Tricia don't tell you to correct something to waste their breath. They want to make sure you are being safe and using good form.
Tell us about yourself/ your family: I was born in San Antonio. I've lived in Texas, Germany, Missouri, and Florida. My father was in the army until I was in 6th grade that is why we moved around a lot. I am now pursuing a degree in biology. I'd like do become a PA.
What is your favorite part of being part of CrossFit 610? I love how much everyone there motivates each other. There has been times where I really didn't think I could pr on a lift but with everyone there pushing me I was able to get it.
Tell us something we may not know about you: I dislocated my elbow in 5th grade on a trampoline. Since my father was watching the Oklahoma Texas game he just popped it back into socket and had me wait until the game was over until he was going to take me to the hospital. My mom came home and finally took me.
